Hillsboro Presbyterian Church has partnered with 8 other local churches in the operation of a homeless winter shelter. The Shelter at Orenco Station is located in the Sonrise Church facility and will be in operation from December 1, 2009 through March 1, 2010. The function of SOS homeless shelter is managed by a leadership team comprised of representatives of each church involved in this ministry. HPC is represented by Bruce Friberg and Sandy McFerran.
Our mission is to meet the needs and provide a loving environment for the overnight shelter for 25 homeless guests. This involves a hot dinner, shower access, cots and sleeping bags, and a simple breakfast. We also provide access to the clothes closet and food pantry.
The shelter is staffed and supplied entirely by volunteers and requires 4 volunteers serving as overnight hosts and 3 volunteers serving as food handlers per night. For a complete list of opportunities to serve the needs of the SOS shelter please visit the web site.
